I tried searching, but the search feature never works for me on here. Well i counted what i think was the dorsal fin spines, the top fin closest to the head and i counted nine spines. Did i do it right? Is the dorsal fin the top fin towards the back or the one towards the head of the fish? And how far do i count the spines? I started from the front of the fish and counted to where it goes down into the white stripe...

the price is usually the best indicator. false perks are about $10.00, true perks are about $30.00-$35.00. there will be black patch behind the first white stripe on trues, the false will have orange patch behind the first white stripe. thats about as simple as i can explain it. have a great weekend,

well this is why i want to know, i paid for fase percs, but i think i got true percs... Because they are a lot darker and more orange then all the false percs i see in the stores and all the white stripes are bordered by black, i'll post pics as soon as i get my camera working...

Price isnt always an indicator. We get both species in for the same price, alot of the time the wholesalers wont know whats what unless its got a ton of black on them, then obviously they're percula, but the normal orange occelaris and percula they really dont know. So, we charge the same for both. Price is not an indicator.
Anyways, iding is not possible without a picture.

My guess goes to ocellaris...I think I counted 11 dorsal spines...

It's certainly not enough black to say it's percula for sure, and the eyes look like ocellaris to me.

Wow! Where do you live? Here the ocellaris are (currently) $15 at petco, and that is the cheapest. They've got a -$2 special on them now. Other stores they are $25, or at the better one I've seen him sell aquacultured plain looking ocels(aka not misbarred) for $35. I got my TRUE perc for $20. >_> Or the expensive store sells them for $35. Lol.
