how much do you need to rinse this stuff and how's the best way to do it. Instructions say to rinse thoroughly. I have running under water for minutes and I still keep getting blackish water. Does excessive rinsing have a negative impact on the qualities of the carbon?

on your sink do you have one of those sprayer things? I use that to blast the carbon (i got the same stuff) and it works fine. Then i let it sit in a bowl/bucket/whatever of water for about half an hour. Always works for me.

i put it in a bowl of ro/di for about a half hour, then dunk it in another bowl until it is mostly clean. I figure this way It wont really have anything to absorb and use up thecarbon before i get it into the tank. JMO

I think I'm rinsing mine way too much then.....probably reducing its effectiveness. Seems to take a lot of rinsing before the water stops coming out black.
