Well, 6 weeks ago I started treating for an ick infestation in my 180 reef. I prety much tore the whole tank down, in that I had to remove most of the 300 pounds of live rock to catch 8 fish so that I could quarrantine them while I treated with Copper. That went OK, took the better part of a weekend to catch all the fish and get them down into the hospital tank. So, I treated with Coppersafe for the whole 6 weeks while the reef stood idle with just the corals, hermits, snails, stars, etc... in it. Anyway, today was the 6 week mark, but I got impatient and put all my fish back in one day early. So far, everything looks great. The powder blue tang, which is an ick magnet, is still ick free after 24 hours back in his home, as are all the other fish.
So, it seems that this method works great for eradicating ick from a reef tank. It's tough to do, but I think it was worth it in the end. All I have to say is that I feel sorry for people that don't have an automatic water makeup system for their tanks. Keeping the water level correct in the hospital tank was a daily chore and I'm glad I don't have to deal with that anymore...
Anyhow, thanks for the help I got 6 weeks ago when I started this adventure and I'll keep this post updated if anything changes, which it better not!!
