We picked up our first fish yesterday. His name is "Kona." ... from Hawaii. Around 2-2.5 inches. We also picked up another Fire and Cleaner Shrimp. Kaden was all excited as he finally got to help acclimate some stuff.

First fist?
Black tang? Isn't that kind of an expensive first fist?

Glad to see your stocking it (finally).

Let's see the SPS! :D

ps. Nice ocean scene on the wall in the background.

Fist? You silly rabbit!

Took awhile for the LFS to bring in a Black Tang that small. The majority of the corals are still in the 33g.

They have nice painted fish on the walls of the store. Don't have any painted fish in my fish room.

Isn't that kind of an expensive first fist?
We wanted a Black Tang...we just didn't think it would be the first fish to come in off the list. TeeHee. Plus, not everyone can be as cool as you and me. :smokin:

Sorry about the delay in getting some more pics.

Still working on the fishie room, so more pics of that side will hopefully be soon.

Added the White Cheek Tang this past Friday and he's been at odds with the Black Tang ever since. I put a mirror against the front glass which seems to be keeping them occupied at their twin and not each other.

I moved all the corals I had in our 33g holding tank, so now it’s being turned into a QT tank. I’m also working on getting the CA reactor running.

Current Fish population:
1 - Black Tang
1 - White Cheek Tang
2 - Purple Fire Fish
1 - Red Fire Fish
1 - Royal Gramma
1 - Green Chromis
1 - Bangaii Cardinal

Current Invert population:
2 - Fire Shrimp
2 - Cleaner Shrimp
40 - Red Leg Hermits
3 - Turbos

hmmmm corals.

You'd think a couple of little ol' fish would be happy in a tank that large. Where'd you get the idea of using a mirror to distract them? Does it help?

Gotta have some deco in the fish room:

http://home.wi.rr.com/redseapurpletang/OtherPics/Marlin.jpg

Main power cabinet....named R4-K5, which for you Star Wars fans, was Darth's black droid.....it was Kaden's idea. :strooper: This cabinet was one of those stereo cabinets that I painted black. It has a clear glass door that closes, which you can see on the left side.

There are three seperate control feeds, each having it's own 20Amp dedicated circuit. Lights, Circulation and Filtration.

The top switch control (above all the timers) is the lighting control. Each blue switch controls a single timer. This includes all 4 halides, the T5 Actinics and the LED Moonlights.

The other switch controls have individual switches for each device that's plugged in. Heaters, feeder pumps for the skimmer, CA reactor and I~Aquatic reactor, etc...

The bottom switch controls all four Tunze Stream pumps.

In the middle is the Tunze 7095 Controller, American Marine (Pinpoint) Wireless Temp monitor, which scrolls through temps in the Display tank, sump and change water tank. The current reading is for the change water tank. To the right of that is the Milwaukee pH Controller, which isn't hooked up yet.

Just below the Tunze 7095 controller is the Auto-Top Off controller.

To the right of that, are the three main shut off switches. One for lighting, Circulation and Filtration. Each switch will shut off the switch controller that it powers. So basically, if you shut off all three of these switches, the entire power system to the tank shuts off in 1 - 2 seconds. Hopefully we won't ever have to do this, but it's a fast system shut down if the need should arise.

I'm still in the process of using zip ties to tidy up the back so it looks nice.

We had our 11th year Wedding Anniversary a couple days ago. This year, per the contemporary/Traditional list of Anniversary gifts was steel. We started to do this list as it's fun from year to year.

Anyway, thanks also in part to all the LOSER...did I mention ABSOLUTE LOSER weather guys, who we'll call LOSERS, from every major (LOSER) station in this fine metro area that forecasted major tornado outbreaks and power outages in Milwaukee....spawned an early steel anniversary gift:

Gerrrr....me too! I was ready for 36hrs without power, after 14 days in the Winter...WAAAh-WAaaah (horn sound) everything was lost.

One thing though...I added up the 350w heater, 120w system pump and 120w for protien skimmer and 500w for lights. I couldn't run that and my basement's sump pump with my 5K generator. Though I had plenty of watts I exceeded the amps.

Oh well, hopefully my generator will still work when the power goes out again. I plan to eventually get some T5 refits for emergency lighting over my 225, that will use less watts/amps than my 250w HQIs (x3)

The rest are some fishie room pics. Finally arranged the fish room the way I like it.

This is the view going into the fish room.

http://home.wi.rr.com/redseapurpletang/OtherPics/IMG_0440.jpg

The 33g on the bottom (12x12x48) is the fishie QT tank. Lit by a Power compact Jebo fixture. There is a Penguin HOB filter that I use for water movement, as well as BioBalls and carbon filter when needed. I also have two MP1200 powerheads for water movement as well.

The 10g on the upper left is my RO/DI auto top-off water. The float switch is connected to the RO/DI unit with an auto-shut off valve. There's a MP1200 powerhead and 50w Stealth Heater in the tank. As the tank only has RO/DI water in it, I'm not worried that the float valve will stick, although I do move it around just in case.

The 40g next to the 10g is the saltwater mix water. Complete with Rio pump for mixing as well as a 250w Stealth heater. On the right side of the 40g is a bulkhead and pipe the goes right to the sump. This way I can just open the valve and the new change water goes right to the sump. The other PVC pipe going to the sump has the hose inside that's coming from the 10g auto top-off tank as well.

The RO/DI water line coming through the wall goes to both the 10g and 40g so I can valve control where the water needs to go.

The sump design hasn't changed. I'm going to install another auto top-off sensor, just in case one gets freaky.

http://home.wi.rr.com/redseapurpletang/OtherPics/IMG_0441.jpg

The black cabinet on the left is the power/switch cabinet. Above that the lighting ballasts and the round things are part of the Tunze system. The wooded cabinet is my "mad scientist" area. Doubles as a nice work surface and storage. The magnetic/wipe board keeps me updated.

http://home.wi.rr.com/redseapurpletang/OtherPics/IMG_0442.jpg

And who doesn't need more storage right? :D

Got the new skimmer cleaned up. The skimmer I had was grossly under rated for my tank and bioload. I put the new one on a bucket for height reference and of course you always have to have the kid in the pic as well. It's a ASM G5 with dual Sedra 9000 pumps. Not nearly as cool as Tim Brill's....but it was cheaper. :smokin:

The sump re-do is scheduled for the next couple days.

I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler! There's a place in Milwaukee called Stained Glass Overlay. It's just class with a film over the top. They added the lead to give it the look like stained glass. Tons cheaper then actual stained glass.

Nevertheless, it looks great. My wife does stained glass. She noted that the extended dorsal fins on the firefish would be difficult.

Everything looks great - and your fish room is so clean and organized.
