i have 125 it use to be in good shape I add 60lbs of sand 5 weeks ago my nitrates have been off the charts I can not seem to get them down and now i have green hair algae going crazy

Hello Salty,
I would recommend continued water changes and try something like a Kent Nitrate sponge. It will take about 2 weeks to work but chemical filtration can be very helpful at controlling nuisance algae especially when phosphate and nitrate sponges are used in conjunction.
Not sure why the sand would cause such a nitrate spike but I have experienced an ammonia spike before as a result of adding "live" sand to an existing and stable system.
