I don’t know what’s up with my tank(24g AP)! A few days ago, I put a 70w HQI Metal Halide light fixture and a CPR Skimmer on it… Thought both of those things were great!

Well… Day 2, the water was REALLY cloudy… Day 3 I start getting this white slimmy stuff building up on the glass, and gunking up my power heads… What’s the deal?

My water parameters are good. 8.2 Ph, 0-Nitrate, Ammonia, and Nitrite. Temp is about 80…

So the ONLY things I have changed were, I took off the stock hood… put a metal halide and skimmer on…

HELP!!!

Could your tank have overheated? How often did you check the temperature on Day 2?

Or it could be an algae bloom. Some water clarifiers can fix this.

No temp flux... Its been a constant 80.somthing...

Water claifiers... I can just get those from a LFS? So possible its just a coincidence?

Did you do anything to acclimate your livestock to the new more powerful lighting?

I'm not an expert, but I would try using chemipure and see if that helps clear some of it up.

Do you use powerheads? Increasing water flow within the tank might help.

Just some ideas, HTH

Lowered the photo period... been slowly raising it back up to normal... cut it down to 4 hrs...
