Today when I came home I noticed that my hippo is holding his left peck fin straight up against his body as he swims. He is using it very little while he swims. He is using his other pec fin to swim like usual. I know that he could have injured it but I was just wondering if this is a sign of something wrong that was not caused by an injury (internal problem, ich or something else).
If anybody has seen this kind of problem before and think it could be something I can treat please let me know. He show some signs of ich last week but that appears to have cleared up now.

If you netted the fish recently, then it is probably an injury. Yes, swimming abnormally, including not using one fin, can be a symptom of bacterial infection or other problems. I need more info about your fish, history, tank, etc.

You can't cure ich in a week. The best treatment is 30 days of hyposalinity in a cycled Qtank.
