I am not going to run a sump due to space limitations.

I have not plumbed the tank yet but here's the plan, basically a closed loop fed off the overflow

overflow -> pump -> 2 returns

I was thinking of adding a skimmer but I would like to plumb it in to the closed loop I will be running, just a WYE off the overflow return one to the return pump and one to a skimmer (which would then feed back into the return line.

Would this cause too much pressure? It would be easy to dump it back into the tank (5' from the bottom of the stand to the top of the tank opening max) if that's the case.

Is there such a beast...preferably with some sort of valve to prevent backflow and then flowing up and out the collection cup?

Am I crazy?!

i think it's not a good idea. You will have a hard time keeper the water level up so the pumps/skimmer will run dry.
