i've heard of this. I know that it is calcite(not agaronite) but what are the possible benefits/non benefits of using gray coast over anything else???

From the literature and the high Magnesium content it looks more like Dolomite to me.
While Aragonite may add a little bit of buffer I would say the given the disolution potential for Calcite or Dolomite which takes a lower PH than Aragonite you shall not expect much of a buffering.
Other than that it is all granulometry and looks.
From the density it seems to have more than the usual fines aso it may need some rinsing and I am not fond of it's greyish look.

It's high-magnesian calcite but I don't believe it's biogenetically produced.

Yes that is why I think is plain ol' crushed dolomite or close to it.
