I was wondering would stock biocube 14 lighting be enuff for nice palys such as lunar eclipse, nuclear greens, armour of gods, rasberry limeaide zoas,RPE's?

I know most of you that have killer collections would have these under MH's but would 48 watts pc's be enuff to keep these? I am asking for a friend that has a nice frag pack on the way and maybe someone could chime in and help with which ones would need to be placed at the top of the rockwork?

I'm sure eventually she will upgrade her lighting like everone else that keep zoas do......Any help would be greatly appreciated,i myself only run MH so this is new to me too.....

My zoos are under T5s. I think if you place the zoas high enough that light should be fine. I have to shade all my zoas under my light.

Cool, thank you very much man.....i know that AOG's dont really need to be blasted and lunars either but nukes look like they would need a lot to keep their color....her tank has all the high spots still available so they will be up there....

BTW your collection rules, and ty again Deac

Thanks ;)

My AOGs were on the sand on the unshaded side of my tank. The red stayed fine, but the skirts bleached a little. I had to move them. My Nucs are on the shaded side right next to my PDs and both are growing great. I've gotten 8 new polyps in a month on the PDs and 3 new polyps in 3weeks on the Nucs. A couple zoos, like legion of evil, are doing great getting blasted by the light on the unshaded side. Its really all trial and error IMO.

Are you sure it was your light that caused the skirts to bleach a little? I've never had a zoanthid bleach on me, and many of them are placed just 8-10" under 400 watt halides. I won't claim to get the greatest possible growth out of them that close to my lights, they might do better lower, but I've never had one bleach.

AOG's skirts color change under different lighting.....I have no doubt they bleached under t5's. Under PC's they can get a greenish color on the skirt.

Impur: I'm glad u get good growth out of nukes i was a little worried for my friend, shes only gettin a single polyp.I'm going to have to get her to try them im different areas untill she finds the sweet spot for each one....

TY again Deac.......feel free to post a pic of ur tank too hehe

100% sure. After moving them 8 days ago i can see a dramatic difference in the color of the skirt.

To give you an idea how bright these T5s are, i bought a large frag of green/purple rim monti cap from a LFS. He had it placed directly under one of the 400w MH pendants in his display tank, 10" from the bulb. I brought it home, put it on the sand on the unshaded side of my tank and in just under a week it bleached. I cannot keep any montipora corals unless i shade them. Same for all LPS. When i upgraded my tank, i went from 250w MH on a 29gal, to this 75gal with the T5s. Ever single SPS that went under this TEK fixture bleached. You could tell the light just fried the flesh right off them. It takes me months to acclimate SPS to this light. I have an idaho grape frag that has been sitting under a ledge of LR for 3 months. Just last week i moved it out a little, just about 1/3 was getting direct light. Keep in mind this is on the sand. This week i'm nursing a 1/3 bleached idaho grape frag back to full strenght. And i'm guessing its gonna take 3-4 months.

I've noticed with my raspberry limeaides that they turn mostly yellow under less lighting and get the solid pink center when blasted with light. I've got 5 frags in various spots just to see how they recat and the difference between the one in the lowest light and highest light very apparent.

Also, my AOGs look best under more intense light IMO. They get almost solid and lose most of the dark stripes.

Here's a pic for example. Keep in mind it's with a flash so not showing off the colors very well. But that rock is on an angle and the polpys at the bottom are shaded while the ones higher up are getting a good amount of light.

Thats interesting. On mine the skirts have turned almost white, but the red center and the stripes are fully intact. I'll get a pic tonight.

Your skirts are really long.
My zoas used to do that too, but then I upped my salinity to 1.025 and they got better.
My refractometer was not reading correctly, most of the ones off of ebay do not because calibrating them to zero TDS isn't accurate.

Just a thought.

Got the pic, just have to upload it at lunch.

Usually the longer skirts are a result of high flow.

Just to jump in on this and not have to create a new thread, I have 108W of PC lighting on my 10 gallon tank: 1x 10,000K, 1x 50/50 actinic, 1x 420/460nm.

Will that be enough to keep the color of some eagle eyes, radioactive eagle eyes, and kedd redds? As well as ricordias?

Thanks!

zoas will be fine under PC lighting but some morphs won't be as bright when exposed to higher lighting like MH and T5's..

here's some shots of my old 55g tank under 65w x 4 (2 actinics; 2 12k)

sorry for the big photos...
