Is annyone running thier Alk purposely higher than the accepted norms and what are the negatives on sps's. Everything you read says keep it in the 7-10 dKH range, are there any benefits in maintaining it higher, any observations.

There is a method of running your alkalinity high (12dkh)
called the Blue Coral Method which is used in Italy they also
raise their Magnesium levels accordingly

Alot of people think ALK levels of over 11 can cause RTN. NSW is 7-8, 15 is over double that, can you imagine doubling your sg. ?

I notice sps issues @ alks above 10. I'm really surprised that the Blu Coral method uses alk that high; doesn't seem like there's any rhyme or reason....

This is just speculation... I think because they run a higher relative level that is balanced, there aren't as many issues as plainly running high alk.. Again sheer speculation as I run NSW of alk/ca/mg etc.... Part of the challenge is understanding what those levels are though.... ( at least for me)

Alk ~15
Ca ~500
Mg ~1500

Buy a bucket of Oceanic and you'll get there pretty fast, though it's light on the alk... I was testing Oceanic to be 500ppm + Ca and MG 1500+ppm.

I think the pappone also has something to do with it, providing a lot of N, but before pollution occurs, it is skimmed out...

I wish I understood more Italian...

A local in our club lost a lot of SPS due to his DKH being 14
