So I baught my 29 gallon oceanic about 4 months ago, And no surprise I wanted bigger. So I baught a 75 gallon glass aquarium with a megalflow sump and all the goodies costed me about 1600.00 all together including the live sand and the live rock. Last night I hooked everything up I must say its pretty nosiey especially with the overflow dunping into the sump. I couldnt sleep for all night. Well I just thought i would add this in for conversation. I will be updating as my tank progresses. I will also add pics along the way.

In the picture you are using glass tops and it appears maybe a durso style mega overflow kit? If this is correct you need to make sure the hole on the durso can get air (it looks to be covered). If this is true it could be part of the problem.

I also have a 75RR mega overflow. I run an Ocean Runner 3500 return pump and can barely hear it. I also use egg crate instead of glass (do a search on closed vs open tops).

I never would have thought of that, Its all the small things that make such a differance thank you for that info.

The size of the air hole will raise or lower the water level inside the overflow too. Hth. Make sure it's not too low to cause noise from draining too far into the overflow. HTH.

Any ideas on how I should make my live rock formations

As natural as possible with lots of caves and some overhangs. It all individaul preference and in my opinion the hardest part!

You can use pvc and stack aruond it and it will make it look like you have 2x as mush rock then you really have.

I never heard of the pvc method, How do u hide the pvc so that it is not visable.

In my 65tall I made structures out of PVC and put them in before I put the LR in. Then I built the rock around the structures. You can take pieces of LR rubble and then hide the remaining visible parts. After awhile the PVC will get covered in coraline algae and you wont even be able to tell its there.
It also adds more flow through the tank.
