All of a sudden I looked in my tank tonight and my orange ric was closing up. I can not figure out why all my readings look fine by my kit. Anyone know what could cause this or what to check that I may not of thought about? This is the only time I've ever seen it closed.

Today I noticed that there is some brown looking mushy stuff coming from the mouth.

HELP PLEASE

sounds like ti is cleaning itself. Give it a day or two and it should be back to normal. Its mouth not only takes food in but serves as a-how can I say this-poop hole.

Some say that's the ricordea expelling zooxanthellae, but I don't know if there is any proof of that out there. I just consider it to be waste like FLricordia says. What goes in must come out :D

Here's one of mine doing it:

Mine does that every now and then, after a day or two it'll get back to normal.

It's happened to my a few times now, and every time I freak out :)

Yeah I have to admit I freak out a little bit too, since I don't want the colors fading if they are indeed expelling zooxanthellae. Mine are usually normal again after about an hour or 2.

closing up can idicate eating, which naturally follows by pooping. if it got a big meal the poop can be a noticable discharge.

been watching for a while and it is still unhappy and shriveled, I have tried various locations and flows and still cant figure anything out. Its been this way a few weeks now and just stays the same.

i think you should stop moving it around and breaking its cycle of gettin used to the area that u put it in .. it'll be fine .. just give it a little bit of time .. it happens to everyone .

I agree with sap. leave the ric alone on the bottom of the tank if possible.
