Nova exstreme retro fit

Im looking to upgrade my lights from 4X55w PC to some t-5. I plan on keeping mostly soft corals. Would this light be a step up from my curent setup? It says it comes with individual refelectors. Anyone used these? There 129.99 for 2 48 inch bulbs.

Tony, these aren't nearly as good as the tek's or the icecap's. The icecaps are much better than these. I would sugget icecap retro's , then the tek retro's. The tek 2's just came out and are suppose to be great, i saw them on ebay at ocean....somethin. But the nova's aren't to hot.

Whats the dif realy? The nova comes with 1 reflector per bulb. Why are the others much better?

The reflectors for the icecap are single parabolic reflectors which are the best you can get. They will by far output the nova reflectors. Check out the t5 Q & A thread. Look for grim reefer or haunmaster, there the t5 experts. But trust me, you won't be sorry ; )

How big is the tank? I have used the Current t5s and they work just fine for what you are going to keep in the tank. A lot of people on here will tell you to get something that WAY overshoots what you need. I currently use CoralVue t5 retrokits for all my saltwater setups that I care for. I have a 55 gallon with the Nova Extreme canopy and all I can run is two bulbs at a time (not all 4) because it grows too much algae. However, the corals (Hammer, Xenia, Devils Hand, Colt, Mushrooms, and polyps) are doing excellent.

I have a 55 also. SO your saying only 2 bulbs are realy needed?

With softies like GSP and mushrooms most anything will work.

Does that retro actually have individual reflectors? I cant tell. Even if it doesnt, for the price you could still buy Tek2 or Icecap SLR reflectors to clip on I bet and still end up with a pretty nice unit.

Yes it comes with seperate reflectors. You have to look under specs and it lists 2 reflectors.
