Hello, I was at a LFS today and he had a mantis for sale for $20 that was called a peacock from his supplier, but it was not. I did not get a picture of the mantis but let me describe him or her the best I can. Here are the mantis' features:

smasher about 3"
tan body and attenae in color
pink legs and pink feathers underneath
light green eyes
pink frindged wings near head (sorry don't know the technical term for those)

Any identification of the mantis would be appreciated.

the head "wings" are called antennal scales. Your description sounds like a relatively small G. chiragra. did the lfs not let you take a pic or did you just not have a camera? a pic really would help.

Sorry I did not have a camera with me, and cell phone cameras take awful pictures. I was leaning toward a Chiragra as well because he had lines down his head and faint white spots on the head as well. I have had a Chiragra (a 4.5 inch specimen), and there were some definite similarities.

The largest Gonodactylus chiragra ever reported was right at 4'' and the largest I have ever measured was just underthah (95 mm). Three to 3.5 inches is a decent size for a G. chiragra.
