View Full Version : Disappointed in ric purchase...look!

A few days ago I received what the seller said was a 1 and 1/2 inch electric pink ricordea yuma. I won it on auction for $125.00. Anyway, what I recieved was a mostly brown ric that expands in my happy and healthy ric tank to 1 inch. It also appears to be a florida ricordea as upon close inspection I find no sign of tentacles surrounding the oral opening. The following pics are of the little brown ric, one photo also featuring a newly acquired orange florida ric, and the photo that accompanied the auction. What I received is not even close to the photo on the auction. I guess I'm just looking for some moral support before I contact the seller again. Would you be disappointed with this purchase?http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=207153&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=207152&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=207154&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=207151&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500

I would be dissapointed. wow, i was going to bid on that thing but my computer locked up at the last minute, im glad i didnt. I did buy something from that person that was advertised as ricordea, but the pic was a macro shot of a frogspawn

It is very hard to tell, as the ric oculd have just discolored with shipping depending on how poorly it shipped (in this case, to produce that drastic of a color change, they must have been playing soccer with the box!) However, what's concerning me as per "did-you-get-swindled" is the strange green almost metallic tint as you tilt the ricordea in the second picture. It's very subtle and hard to notice, and you can only really see it in the second picture. Makes it look more like a discolored to meh-colored green florida ric than any extravagant pink ric like in the last picture.

I'd contact the person who sold it to you, especially considering you paid that much for it.

*hugs* Good luck with it! Hopefully you can either get your money back or get the real ricordea (although, if you're a reef addict like me, you want your coral!)

I would contact the seller to correct the situation and report him to the place you bid for it and call the authorities on what can be done.
If they don't correct the situation , you should tell everyone on the forum who this person is so no one get into the same situation. Sorry for your purchase hope you get it resolved!

Looks like they might have sent you the wrong ric as an honest mistake. Contact them and clear it up before you go and ruin their good name on eBay. If they did give you the shaft make them pay though :D

Very sorry. It is a shame if you were intentionally ripped of. Who was the seller so others can be on the look out? Doesn't look like the same ric at all. Think you got the shaft. Does look like you got a FL ricordia instead. The spirocysts look too much the same size though can't see the mouth, but with the pic it is really hard to tell. Could be yuma, but I wouldn't think it is the one in the last pic. You need to file a complaint with ebay and if you payed with paypal, them too. Keep us up to date with what happens. Luck.

Look Here at the Pink Yuma (http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/images/thumbimg/400/3387_1.jpg)

Pink yumas like that one goes for 30 for dime size to 50 for half dollar size.
$125 for the one in the auction sounds kinda high imo even if it was not all browned out.
Either way, I'd be dissapointed to get the one you got in the mail.

I am going to try and work things out with the seller first before I file a complaint with ebay or leave negative feedback. So far they have not responded to my latest email.

I hope that is an honest mistake and gets corrected because if not that is the most horrid looking $125 ric I've ever seen- discolored or not!

I know there is a lot of good vendors on Ebay. They also have a lot of rip offs. You got hosed, stop payment. If you file a dispute you have to pay shipping back to them, probley more than the cost. Have your credit card company reverse the charge.

Look Here at the Pink Yuma (http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/images/thumbimg/400/3387_1.jpg)

Was that the picture of the Yuma in the auction? I sure in the hell hope not...that is a pic from my tank that I took about a year ago. I have sold plenty of pink yuma's on this forum (babies from the one in the link) and whatever you got, is not a pink yuma. I would say you got the shaft. Can you post a link to the original auction?

newtanksmell
03/19/2007, 06:58 PM
Well, I was going with the honest mistake theme until Rick pops up with, "that pic is from my tank last year." Hopefully, that was not the pic used for the auction.

I can honestly say that I have never got ripped on Ebay. I'm real picky about Feedback. Better have a min of 100 with less than 1 complaint. That complaint has to be six months old.

For high dollar stuff, I typically approach people here with sound reputations. I'd rather pay top dollar/fair value and KNOW what I'm getting.

I really hope that this was a mistake and not some hack.

Please keep us informed.

ntfish
03/19/2007, 10:37 PM
The seller has still not contacted me. I learned yesterday that someone else bought one from them right after I did and that it has very little color also. They too are having trouble with the seller not contacting them.

FLricordia
03/19/2007, 10:57 PM
That s**ks. Are you going through ebay when you try contacting them? If you don't hear something in the next few days you really need to contact ebay commplaint, but you need to make sure that youare trying to contact the seller through ebay, not by email direct. Here is the link for it, though you probably already know it. Ebay will help resolve it. They deal with this type of problem all the time and don't take it lightly. http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?InrCreateDispute

This thread reminds me of a website I saw the other day. I really can't tell if these photos have been doctored- the ones on the website aren't very clear crisp pictures for some reason.. its like they were saved as a crappy low rez version of the picture.. And yet I also can't believe some of these corals are this color naturally - close maybe - what do you guys think?

yeah i would get on the complaint/ disput with both ebay and paypal...i just recently got screwed over by someone promissing me that it was on its way and that possibly ups lost...after two months i tried to file and to no avail...ebay and paypal wont do anything for after 45 days...now i give two weeks after payment max then file a complaint regarless of what they tell me...wheni get the correct item i will end the dispute and close the clomplaint..like the old says goes screw me once shame on you...screw me twice shame on me...it will NEVER happen to me again..

hope you get this figured out though...and sorted...

but i read through the auction and didnt see where it says Yuma? so you indeed may have gotten a pic ric that has just been severly shocked via poor shipping, handling, temperature..etc..

Chrisstie, I have seen that color of Goniopora at an LFS here. It really is that color, although that pic looks like it was shot a 1/3 or 2/3 under.

Can't say on the Yuma. Haven't seen enough of them yet to qualify me for an intelligent opinion.

Why does that guy still have positive feedback?? You and the other seller totally need to get in there and mark him down.

Looks like he randomly sells weird stuff here and there and maybe decided to try to make a profit off of something fishy like a nice picture of a yuma that isnt his =\

and for the pics I've posted above- I have seen some gonis close to that color but not.. quite quite that color. if I had enough cash right now i'd have bought what I saw but.. the mushrooms base looks a little not right to me- usually they are somewhat a uniform color underneath- at least the ones i've seen so i dont know why it'd have rainbow splotches on it.. beautiful color aside but.. I don't know something struck me as not quite right with those pics- the site i found it on does have some other very legitimate looking frags though so i was like hmm.. what the?

go to ebay and save those emails too, but as another persone said, send your "messages " thru ebay so they have copies of them too.

It is also time to leave negative feedback. If you leave negative feedback they will probably offer you a refund if you retract the feedback. If they do, make sure you get your refund BEFORE you retract.
DOES IT SOUND LIKE I WENT THRU THIS BEFORE!!!!!

I had the same problem with another company recently. I payed through paypal. They sold me brown zoanthids instead of PPEs. I asked for a refund and they said they would but didn't. I contacted paypal, credit card company, and better business bureau. I also sent him a few nice warnings as well. 5mins later I got an email from paypal stating the company refunded my money. I hope this all works out for you aswell.

To clarify things in regards as to the species, I asked the seller before purchase if it was a yuma, he said yes. What I received is unquestionably a florida. I also inquired about the size, he told me one a half inches. What I received was a brownish one inch florida ric. The size is not that big of a deal, it's just that it in no way lives up to what I was offered. The photo used in the auction is not even his own and most people who know rics would agree that it is a photo of a yuma.

Good deal. I think we should all contact this seller and voice our disappointments in what he is doing to our fellow reefers. If you go to his store page anyone who is an ebay member can contact him by clicking something he has for sale. What say ye? Shall we don our kilts and take up arms? :mad2:
Might wait till ntfish gets it resolved first though. Just in case we make the person angry to the point of no return.

Should contact the pic's owner or at least the site's admin and mention this transaction and that the pic is being used.
I don't normally like to cause trouble mind you, but the are just too many people out there taking us for a ride and it is beyond getting old.
This should be a lesson to us all. No WYSIWYG pic, no sale.

That guy was using a picture of mine of some zoanthids, that he said he had taken in 20k lighting. I contacted him about it and made him take the picture down. He is a thief, that is not the ric you got in the picture I have seen the picture that he used for that auction and he has been borrowing pictures off the Internet for his auctions. He was using a picture of a zoanthid that I named on Zoaid.com and used my picture and in the details stated he took the picture in his tank. I would call your CC company as well. I would also put negative feedback and state that the picture used for the auction was not his as well. Looks to be another thief out there taking advantage of hobbyist.
