View Full Version : What fish is your weakness?
Peter Eichler

For me it's Pseudochromis. If it were possible I'd have a huge tank with about 30 of them in it, sadly they don't like one another very much. They can be little jerks but they're so fun to watch and have great personalities despite being a little boisterous.
So, of all the fish in this hobby what type of fish is the one that you just have to have in every tank?

I have always found Moorish Idols fascinating. Unfortunately, with their survival rate in captivity, I don't have one. But I sure as hell will try when I make a tank.

Rhinopias Scorpionfish for me. By far some of the coolest fish in the world. Sadly the cost makes them just a pipe dream. I could deal with the venom, but they're just too expensive.

i'm in love with all varieties of anthias. i don't know why since they look a lot like a fancier goldfish, but i think they're just beautiful, especially when they're schooling.

Wrasses for me. Their colors/personality/ease of care make them great for a reef tank!
On looks alone, I love Blonde Naso Tangs and Copperband Butterflies. For fish that I'd actually have, no doubt it'd be the Lawnmower Blenny and Maroon Clownfish. Those two fish have more personality than probably most people I've met.

I am in love with volitan lionfish, especially the black ones. I have often debated setting up a tank just for one to live in. And I love niger and pink tail triggers. A giant aggressive tank may be in the distant future for me, but not in the house I am in now. Until then, I really love scooter blennies (dragonettes)

My second favorite are triggers. My favorite fish back when I had a fish room was my Undulated Trigger. I could watch him for hours digging and rearranging coral rubble, he was always like a little puppy dog wanting attention.
It's too bad I'll never have one again :( I just don't have the will to setup an entire aquarium dedicated to one fish anymore.

For reef safe fish its gotta be mandarin fish. I want to get a fuge so bad so I could keep one. I think they are the most beautiful reef safe fish.
As for non reef safe, I would say emperor angels.

I was going to finally get myself a couple Helfrichi a few weeks ago and came across a group of 3 plain old firefish that were very healthy and looked great. They're almost as pretty IMO and I got 3 of them for $36. Very common, but great fish none the less.

Mine are all of the large angels...Queens in particular. But given their appetites for corals, I won't be having one anytime soon. :(
2nd to the big angels are Achilles tangs and the Powder blues...I have a healthy powder blue now after a lot of heartache from my first attempt at keeping one. I almost chose the Achilles instead but after doing some research, decided on the PBT.

But that was back when I started three years ago though. Never tried it since because I already had my maroon and lovin' it.

This was a tough question and I thought about it for a long time, here goes.....
1) Chaetodon Semilarvatus
2) Chaetodon Trifasciatus (Indian Ocean Red-Fin Butterfly)
3) Chaetodon Meyeri (Meyer's Butterfly)
I think these are three of the most beautiful butterfly fish in existence. Thankfully I don't see the Red-Fin available for sale at any of my LFS's anymore. It used to just break my heart to see them sold as "assorted butterfly" and I knew they weren't going to live.
Also, any of the large Angelfish. It's incredible to watch them go through their color change from juvenile to adult!!!!
