I'm in the process of re-vitalizing a forgotten tank. The live rock is still well but I'm definitely going to be looking for some hair algae cleaners...but i digress.

After moving the tank to a better location I found a crab with red and white striped horizontally legs and claws that have black tips...any hints on what it could be? I'll be putting corals back into the tank and want to eliminate any threats. Thanks

What is the shape of the claws? Sharp pincers or spoon shaped? Is it hairy all over or smooth carapace and claws? Sharp and hairy as a rule of thumb is probably bad.

Catch it and take a picture for better id.

It's body is white, legs go red and white alternating and it has black tips. It's not that hairy but it looks like it has some mean claws on it. I'm going to try the glass trick but otherwise this guy has the best of me right now.

easiest way if you don't mind taking your rock apart is just find out where he hides and remove that rock.

messing with him right now with a piece of shrimp in a cup...he is pretty smart. i have a skewer holding the shrimp down in the cup and instead of going into the cup he is lifting the skewer. every time i get close to try to turn the cup up he scampers off quickly and he doesnt seem to want to descend into the cup rather stay on the lip of it...slowly but surely.

Thats him. I swooped him up as soon as he went into the cup...he would have gotten out. Any positive id? i'll try to get a better pic soon.

Cute, but more than likely evil.
