The neck is frosted? Why would they do that? That's my favorite part of any skimmer. If I'm shelling out the dough for a BK I wanna see the action, not have it behind a rice curtain.

That looks pretty much sweet. :D Good point about the neck though. Might be a reason behind the design. Possibly better/more contact time?....

Hmm... I wonder why such a smaller bubble plate...

Wow looks interesting. I agree with Skip that the workmanship doesn't look to be the same quality as the old ones. Could be a prototype or not indicitive of the future skimmers? Also maybe abandoning the more flawless welds to meet demand. Either way one thing I've realized that welds don't make a skimmer work better and the BK 300 Ext is still the best skimmer I've ever owned.

Interesting diffuser plate - noticed 1,500LPH which seems like a lot for that sized skimmer. Although with the diffuser it dramatically decreases foam killing turbulence. Really glad they stuck with an acrylic neck.

Crap, and just when I thought I'd never buy another skimmer ...

I really want to see one of those in action.

Is that a bleed-off hole on the side of the bubble chamber? Heeeyy... that was my idea... lol. I wonder why they dont lower the bubble plate and make that pipe enter the side at an angle to spin the contents rather than have it perched on top of that elbow.

Looks like they are trying to use more cast parts to cut costs.

Thats from the existing series actually... the mini-BKs... 160, 180, 200. they are sold overseas and Klaus wanted to get another importer because it was the current one's decision not to import it... but the series has been popular in the EU.

first mistake the reddragon pump over priced for perfromance.

Maybe change pump and unit will be more affordable.

Well it looks like its not a new model, if you can read German here is the thread. :) The pump is a RD but the skimmer is not Royal Exclusiv.

LOL, well considering BK makes RD pumps - it would be like asking Chevy to put a Ford engine in their car. Or maybe Lexus putting in a Ford engine. :) Have you actually ever owned a RD pump to comment on its performance?

Flinger... he is sorta right... dont get me wrong... those RDs are very nice, well engineered, low wattage...

But those new Tunze hydrofoamer (or ATI threadwheels) outperform them on a lph/watt ratio... and then also cost-wise. And then the ReefFlo Darts/ORCAs are nipping into this market as well... the RDs do have some competition.

OTOH, that DC, 100watt, variable speed, 5000rpm Red Dragon on the way has me drooling.

Actually, I just thought what company has skimmers that look like that... Aquaconnect.

Yes I have owned one and sent it back they do not even make the motor. I pretty sure it is a Hagen motor just with a custom volute do not quote me but they look the same to me.

Hey Hahn - my point was more that RE isn't going to put a non-RE pump on an RE skimmer. Turns out not to be an RE skimmer so moot point - but its still kinda silly to think RE is going to use someone else's pump. I'm a big Tunze fan and had a hydrofoamer, awesome product. Different though IMO. Each has awesome advantages depending on the application/needs of the user.

Good idea.

Oh, no... Im not saying they should use a non-RE pump, nor would I expect them to all-of-a-sudden start using thread/meshwheels. Im just saying that there is competition out there. Since all ATI or Tunze had to do to get this pump was place a call to Sicce, it would seem that Askol (maker of RE's pumps) should be able to make their version of the same pump. Just an idea...

Perhaps with ReefFlo Orca Needle Wheel Pump it's possible to arrived at a good performance ?
