Hi. I just bought some LIve rock rubble and found an anenome on it. I is carribean and I dont know if it is aptaisia. I had some aptaisia before, but it was much darker and much smaller. What do you think? http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k308/pea-brain/DCFN0041.jpg

It may just be my crappy browser or crappy dialup but your picture isn't loading for me.

Sorry messed up. It is blurry. I was thinking that maybe just the size or color would help http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k308/Pea-brain/DCFN0041.jpg

I picked up a rock anemone as a hitchhiker on some rock we got from premium aquatics. I can't even see where the anemone is in your picture though to try to give a guess at it.

If what you are talking about it above the white rock, below the purple, and to the right of the orange spot it is very unclear, however the body shape does resemble aptaisia (sp?). Again though it is tough to make out and I am just going off of basic shape

Yeah it's too blurry to really even know where it is in the picture. Can you draw an arrow or something on the pic in an image editing program or get a clearer picture? If you have a camera with a timer function, you can put it on a tripod or even a stack of boxes and use that to get a clearer picture.

Aiptasia can be any color from completely transparent to very dark brown, and they can get pretty darn big. I've got some with the oral disks probably 4" across in my culture tanks that I need to go after with my infamous razor blades to increase their population.

It's kinda like one of those pics you have to "unfocus" to see, but i can see it, right where the closest top rock sits on another.
Looks like apt to me, but would like a clearer shot to confirm.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/k308/Pea-brain/DCFN0065.jpg It took me awhile and I had to move the rock, but I finally got the camera white balance in a position for a clear pic. I feel special:D

Okay I took the liberty of drawing a sort-of circle around the spot I think you mean:

If that's it, then my guess is also aiptasia.

Okay now I'm more confused...

Is it the large whitish mass just left of the center of the picture? Or am I just blind?

The anenome is just to the right of the white thing. It was on the left but it moved. I dunno what the white thing is. Its kinda squishy, sponge maybe? Anyways, you circled the right thing in that pic. I woulda done it, but no image editing software, not even paint.

Okay. I'm still guessing aiptasia, but not going to do any more than guess w/o a better look at it.

Got peppermints? :)

I'll second that guess...I'm also not positive, but it does look like something you probably don't want.

I think I could see it better in the first pic!LOL
The white thing is sponge = good.

heh. 1 piece of 1/4 # LR has almost as much life as 4# pounds of fiji. At least one thing had to be bad. What came with it: Gorgonian, 2 types of macro algae, a sponge, and 1..no wait...on the other side theres another, 2 aptaisia. not too bad. Too bad a peppermint is just a 10$ snack in my mantis tank. Oh well. Ifll go boil some water and get my turkey baster ready.

It's aiptasia. I have some in my new tank with newly cured LR. I'd say get rid of it soon.

newbie here what is aptasia?

Aptasia is a nuisance anemone that has a stronger sting and can harm fish and really spread through tank in great numbers.
I've used one of the kalk treatments successfully.
Inject w/ a hypo straight in center(come up on it quick and stealthy)
Hold it there for about a minute and it will start to release, then use that hypo to suck it out.
You'll see pieces of apt in hypo.
