Acanthastrea echinata or subechinata.

I will agree with that, and by the way, blitz 99 was a great game, but you already know that.

any "non scientific" names? like "orange crush" or no?

You can call it orange crush if you want to; that just generally refers to a really orange A. echinata. Or just call it a 'brain.' Thats about as common a name as youre gonna find. Acan is used most often.

hey guys i just have a question about that picture. i just bought what i thought was an acan but when i got home i think that it is really some kind of a favia.

from that picture that seems like that could be a favia, i'm only making this assumption because it looks like mine.

how can i make a determination between the two? i have always thought that favias had somewhat small polyps (at least all the ones that i've seen) and acans or other micros have much larger ones.

That is definitely an Acanthastrea, not a Favia. Favia has corallites that almost look separated. A Favites would have corallites that are more connected like the Acanthastrea, but like I said before that picture above is Acanthastrea. Here are some links to show the difference.

Acanthastrea echinata(most likely what that is)

Favia

Favites

Hope that helps
