Well my tank crashed about a year ago and the water has been sitting stagnant in it while I was at school.... I am trying to get it back up but unsure if I should use the sand still. And if not how should I get it out of the tank without scratching it?

Cleaning sand is a hassle but it can be done. Fill your tank with the sand about half full, stir the snot out of it with GLOVES, let the sand settle then siphon the dirty water. It will take several times to get it cleared up. Since your tank crashed before, I would not recommend using or even cleaning the sand, get rid of it. Buy a bag of aragonite sand, a rock or two and start your new reef on it's way! TinMan

Well I already have 150lb of lr. and it wasnt a question of cleaning the sand. If Im doing anything with it, it will be taking it out.

As far as getting it out w/o scratching your tank, you can just siphon it out (if there is still water in there) or if you are tossing it anyway a wet/dry vac works great

Your best bet would be to hit up some of your LFS's and buy 50#'s.

I would switch the sand out for clean dry sand. Premium Aquatics has 30# bags for 20 bucks. You'd be better off buying locally since shipping will be high. ;)
