Yeah, my $4 chromis get as much oohs and aahs from friends and neighbors as my other expensive fish.
Live is better as camera doesn't do justice for they're constant color changing.
I just added a decent size naso, and they're really grouped up tight now!

Also I REALLY appreciated the pics of the Boston Terriers too. I LOVE Bostons! Please guys keep the eye candy coming. Also I am thinking of redoing my own rock work and this is giving me ideas.

Thanks for the kind words.

Yup, thats a Vortech that I have in my tank. Other than the price, I have no complaints so far. Its not as quiet as I had hoped (it makes about as much noise as the Mag 5 in my sump), but it frees up a lot of space in my tank and hase a nice clean look on the inside. The flow is completely adjustable and it can give my tank 100x circulation (if I wanted to push it that high).

Yeah its made for fish tanks. I liked the truck and was like I got to get a fish tank to stick it in. Did a ton of research and decided to go the saltwater route instead. I was going to take the truck out but the gf wanted it in there. Shes like thats the whole reason you got fish.

No, the idea was to take advantage of the sunlight. Now that it's spring and the sun is higher, it even reaches the front of the tank in the early morning. There is a lot of shimmer and the colors are different. The day is long because the sun is up around 6 now(though not shinning into the tank till 10) and the lights go off at 10:30. Real sunlight makes the reef look more animated somehow. It's hard to describe.

I built the stand out of 3/4" metal shaft welded to two 1/8" black iron plates. I designed the stand to be able to see the refugium and have easy access to the skimmer. In this case it was simplicity to draw attention to the tanks, not the stand. I like it. TinMan

Markieb: how do you attach the frags to the eggcrate. without removing it(eggcrate) from water?

My intent was to try a back wall of coral instead of just glass!
I dont have my rocks high in the tank! The egg crate frags were glued on the crate out of the water with super glue. The I used some plastic hangers to hang the crate on the back wall. It can be removed easily. That picture was taken days after I did it.

2 months later (today), you can barely see the egg crate material! It is more a wall of coral now! The middle piece. I did away with the left one! Thanks for asking!

It's not eggcrate. It's a garden cloth inserted into a scrren door frame cut to the demensions of the top of my tank.
Very easy to build, and all the materials needed are at Lowes or HD.

Thank you, Markieb.
The photos below are not for the show case, just the technique used.

I'm also trying to use eggcrate to make some amount of LR in the tank flat, creating more swimming place for a big fish. Planned to look like this (plus corals and algae):
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/dendro982/Debris%2090g%20tank/eggcrateMar25_07.jpg
Ended unfinished, like this:
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g78/dendro982/Debris%2090g%20tank/eggcrateMar25_07a.jpg
Will continue, as LR become freed with liquidation of some small tanks.
Did exactly the same, as described in Ignasi Torralba 16g tank, but with no corals to cover wall at once, the zip ties are visible.
Eggcrate is held by on the door hangers (pressed to the back wall). If only I could secure the frags at place.

Thanks for the compliments. I bought the rocks a few at a time, searching high and low for just the right piece to fit the look I wanted. Once I found teh pieces I wanted the Tonga branch and slab kinda aquascaped themselves. Sadly though the goldflake croaked after 3 years, gonna get another - or maybe a blueface, juv. emperor, conspic, majestic or some other kind of angel to replace it.

What is the fish in the center that looks orange and blue? Also what kind of yellow tang is that? It doesn't look the the standard shape.

saltyfishdude
04/08/2007, 12:07 AM
The fish in the middle is a coral beauty and the other yellow fish is a chocolate shoulder surgeonfish (or a mimic or chocolate tang)

Here is my 65 Gallon tank. I've had it for over a year. about 7 months ago it was moved from MA to FL and everythign except the shrimp survived. Before the 65 gallon most of the inhabitants were in a 75 gallon tank. I downsized (its hard to do when your a hobby freak like me) in order to make moving easier.
http://www.firebirdbandit.com/reefcentral/contest/100_1441.jpg

Below the Main Tank (65 Gallons) is a 20 gallon refugium and on the right is a tidepool II sump. My lighting is 2x 150watt double ended metal halide 10,000K with 2 39watt T5 HO atinic lights.

It's not eggcrate. It's a garden cloth inserted into a scrren door frame cut to the demensions of the top of my tank.
Very easy to build, and all the materials needed are at Lowes or HD.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/tileman/100_1941.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/tileman/100_1935.jpg

Alot nicer looking than eggcrat IMO, and easy to remove for feeding and cleaning the tank.

That is such a great idea! I really like the way that looks!

The hippo has been great for the most part. I got it about 2 years ago. It was the size of a nickel. It had a small outbreak back then but has been fine ever since. It went from my 20g, to my 55g, and now into my 125. I am currently in the process of removing my 30g sump and putting a 75g sump down in my basement. I still cant get a good FTS. The colors just are not right. Ill try again later.
