I am wanting to go bare bottom with a 125 tank I have going in the garage. It is getting overhauled this week. I want to keep stuff from settling. Is it possible to keep stuff up long enough and high enough to get sucked out? Since this is a queen trigger tank, a clean up crew isn't an option. Should I just throw some sand in (about 1") and go back to that route with lots of flow and hope for the best? I just don't want the crap trap again.

I am placing a 40 gallon tall cheato tank under it with light above and on the side and will have LR rubble and sand in there for nutient export. I just would like some advice on how to keep stuff from settling in the main so that the cheato can do the work.

to keep most waste suspended in the water intil filtered use high flow. i have seen people use 40X turnover in there bare bottom sps tank to keep it clean

Anything that settles in my tank I syphon out, I have my flow so anything that does settle, gets pushed to the right side where it seems to pile up, so it is a quick syphon. My main problem is Nori, it gets torn apart and it is messy.

I have also found, it is all in how you place your rock, I use large pieces with crevices on the bottom so I can see if there is a build up under my rock. If there is I can usually reach it with my syphon hose.

I have also seen where people cut large PVC pieces into about 1 inch chunks, than place egg-crate on top of that to hold the rock, you can avoid build up with this. Use black PVC or just wait for it to color overtime.

I have Lions and a cow so really high flow does not suit my tank.

Thank you for the idea with the PVC. Maybe that is the route I will take.
