OK, I screwed up and sold my SVHO super actinics. My corals are not looking nearly as nice as they used to. So, I need to add some suplemental lighting to the tank. I was thinking two 36" SVHO T5s or PCs.

Who runs what????

Paul, I have used PCs and T5s. Nothing beats VHOs as far as actinic supplement.

What are you using for your actual fixtures?

A pair of 110W VHOs

That is what I used to have and like a dumbkoff, I thought I didn't need them anymore. I don't like the look of the tank now, no illuminescense at all. The SPS all look flat in color. I was thinking of using two 36" across the whole span (one bulb each side) or a 24" with two bulbs from front to rear on the side with the SPS.

Can you go with a pair of 4 fts?

Murph, I run 2 110 vho's at 4' long. They are both actinic and I use them for sunrise/sunset when the mh are off. It looks real nice.

What MH are you using 14k? or 10K

Chris, I am running 14K MH.

Dan, the 6' are a pain to get my arm in and out of the tank with.

Russ, I could run 4'ers but the ends would have to overlap in the center, but I have 12" of plate glass center brace.

Can you run just 1 6'er in the back?

Deuce67

Or you can run 2 3'ers in the back and still have acess in the front.

I don't think the ballast will let you run just 1 bulb. IIRC, the wiring has to be in pairs.

Hey paul, did you ever get the PC's hooked up? Got any Pic's?

Let me know if you ever come across another one like that. I'm going to try and set up my 55 gal sump as another tank for the girls and will ned some light over it.

Mounted the hood with more of it on the SPS side of the tank, giving full saturation. I figure the LPS and softies don't need it as much. Moved the MH to the front of the canopy and put in the JBL fixture in the back. It takes up 1/2 of the 18". It has its own interna fans too.

Huhhhhh

Yeah that is a big difference. Looking good.

Are you experimenting with bulbs now? Why did you light the tank different one side to the other?

murfman

Cuz one of the cheap *** Chinese bulbs burnt out after a month and the seller won't warranty them after a week. The 14K you see is a Chinese bulb. I don't like the par on it though. I don' t need a meter to tell me it's not very powerful. My Coralvue should be in this week and I will move the CB to the right and put he CV on the left fore the SPS.

If you want to run T5, I have some ballasts and end caps that I can part with.

There you go Paul. If you get those T5s from Blueman, I got a pair of good T5 reflectors that you can have too.
