Volitan lionfish doesn't look so good

Well to our disappointment our volitan lion doesn't look so well. My niger died a couple days back and he wasn't eating so i thought this is why he died. well my lion looks to have wholes in his fins and his eyes look a little cloudy. he is in a 120 with a porcupine puffer and a snowflake eel at the moment and i am doing water changes. all params look gooid, nitrates nitrites and ammonia all at zero-.5, PH 8.2 and salinity 1.024. Please help me with this. Oh and there is also what looks like some scales falling off or something like that.

are ammonia or nitrite at .5? that could cause problems. I would do a 30% WC at least.

the holes in the lion fins may be from the porky puffer. That's how it usually happens.

can't say I know why that niger trig died.

Treat for bacterial infection, I would not treat in the main tank, quarantine to treat. You can use something like K-Mycin/Kanamycin, I have used this a few times, and each time it cleared the lion up, treat for 5-7 days.

if the lion's eyes get really cloudy and stick out, there are ways to trap him and using a a needle suck the infection out. I know it sounds bad, but it works very well.

Well i came home today and he was almost dead, barely breathing. I got him out using a plastic container as not to further damage his fins. he looked terrible!!! the small holes turned into giant tears and i am really concerned. got him into the only hospital tank got right now, a small 10 gallon and he is looking a little better. at least he is breathing a little better. the porky and eel are going to stay in the 120 for now until i figure this out. ammonia is at zero, nitrate is around .5 justinl. i have got some melafix lying around, will that work? if not i will go out to the LFS to get the mycin/kanamycin. thanks so much for the help you guys.

I buy it at my LFS, you can try using the melafix, it is for bacterial so I don't see why not.

I would question your puffer, it may be picking at the lion, causing stress, I know they can be hit or miss when it comes to lions.
