You should get an RO/DI unit. RO does not filter your water enough to reduce the nutrients causing your hair algae problem.
Premium Aquatics has a unit by Premium Reef Supply that is $160 and does 50 GPD. This is the unit I bought and is very good.
You can also get one from thefilterguys.com.

As already suggested the Spectrapure MaxCap RO/DI in the 300 GPD version is the best RO/DI available today. I started with the 90 GPD version and just purchased a new 150 GPD RO membrane for it to make it a 240 GPD with piggyback membranes.
You can read all about the differences on their Sponsors Forum here on RC.

4 stages are required.
1. Prefilter
2. Carbon Block
3. RO membrane
4. DI filter
Other stages are beneficial for certain situations. If you plan to add a drinking water kit a post RO carbon filter for taste and odor is needed. If you have very high TDS a second DI filter might be warranted.
Again there is not a RO/DI on the market that even comes close to the MaxCap, it will truly get you at least 3.5x the DI life of any other filter available. Thats fact not fiction.
