a jigsaw??? I'm wanting to cut/notch out some pvc for an aquaclear mod and all I have on hand is a jigsaw with multi-purpose blades. Will this work?

you can cut it with nylon string if you had to.

I cut my PVC with a table saw:lol: keeps the cut in line!
and small stuff with a sawzal

yes you can cut it with almost anything, but the finish around the edge wher eyou cut is the key. the rougher the surface the more prepit will take to get the pipes to join. Sanding and filieng the edges is a pain in the butt.

Teh best way is to use a chop saw, or miter saw. They also sell pvc cutters that will cut through the pipe like butter, but they tend to flare the end of the pipe a bit.

They also sell a cable cutter,which looks like an airline cable with finger loops onthe end and you can just saw through the pvc with that, great for cutting through pipe when it is already in place.

I agree with all. I do find the mitre box helps in making a straight cut.

I found that the jigsaw is probably the WORST thing you could use for cutting pvc pipe... a basic hacksaw is certainly easier to control! use a t-square to mark a perfect line if you can't find a mitre box my personal favorite is a powered mitre saw, which you'll find a million other uses for once you purchase one!
