can you cylce a tank and then put live rock in it? whould this hurt the tank or cause spikes with amonia or nitrates?

1.) Live rock is going to be the source of nitrifying bacteria, so without live rock it will be more difficult to cycle in the first place.

2.)Adding live rock after the cycle is going to introduce an abundance of ammonia from decaying organisms which, in turn, will cause another cycle.

If you're starting a new tank cycle it with the rock that way you'll only have one cycle.
