View Full Version : My New Red Fuzzy!

I've seen this guy at one of the lesser LFSes for several weeks now, and finally decided that I could give him a better home. He's an active eater of feeder fish and feeder shrimp, but I'm going to start weaning him onto frozen. He hasn't shown any interest in my clown, my angel, or my Randall's goby... and I'm really only worried about the goby.

Not exactly fish only, but I just thought this was the place to post (and brag a bit). Anyone care to share experiences with fuzzies?

Very cool looking! Nice tank too btw. Glad you could save him. I feel the same way about fish too, I hate when they are cooped up at LFS and could go to not so great homes. Any more pics?

Thanks for the compliment! I'm terrible at tank/fish shots, but I'll try to post a few more.

Attempts 1 and 2 at using the flash. Meh.

Sort of a full tank shot under actinics. Can't really see much.

great looking fish--
Love lions- I take it you've read the lionfish info sheet- (http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-11/)
BTW- your randall's goby will be food, the question will be when......

beautiful lion! just keep an eye on the more aggressive fish because they may beat on him. if they do or just gobble all the food before the lion acts then I would suggest the "weaning basket" method so the lion won't be so outcompeted by the tankmates for food while being trained.

Thanks for the link - I'll definitely look over it. In my time working for a great LFS I've gained a great amount of experience working with lions, but you can never learn too much. Now I'm worried about the goby, though - the lion isn't too much bigger than he is - but it'll be a pain to get the goby out. I would certainly hate to see him get eaten.

The tomato clown is 'aggressive,' but not towards the lion - he's scared to death. The lionfish is in no danger from the clown or my pygmy angel. It's just going to be a task training him to eat.

Thanks for the compliments on the fish - if I could pass them on to him, I would. :D I'm enjoying him immensely.

how does the lions size compare to the goby? If the goby is at least two thirds the lions length, then it should be just fine.

Lions can expand their mouths wide to suck in prey but i don't think they can handle anything much over half their own body size.

The goby may be about half his length - I've had the little guy for over a year and he hasn't grown a whole lot. He is one of my favorite fish, but I hardly ever see him come out - which may keep him safe from the lion, but it's also making me think I should just go ahead and move him. Of course, that would require removing all the rocks - so easier said than done.

Thanks again! His red is pretty intense. He was probably the healthiest fish at that particular LFS - surprising, considering most of their fish had cloudy eyes and all of their tangs had severe lateral line erosion.

I wouldn't be toooo surprised. lions, even dwarfs, are pretty hardy once they start eating properly. Much hardier than tangs at any rate.
