I bought this new eel exactly a week ago. I fed him half a thawed shrimp on thursday of last week, and he ate it. I also fed him a cray fish today and he destroyed it (but I didnt see him eat it, but I saw the cray fishes remains...). Anyways, he NEVER comes out to check things out. I am not expecting him to swim out in the open like a fish, but he doesnt even bother to poke his head out. I know its only been a week, but is there any hope of him not being so shy?

P.S. I believe I have a Banded Moray (Echidna polyzona )

time. and when you feed, don't stick the food in his burrow to make it easy. make him come out a bit if you can. it will show him that you're not a threat. wort a shot. Don't starve him if he doesn't come out though.

Also, they usually don't come out if they aren't hungry. Mine would do some exploring, but now pretty much just hides. If he is hungry, he might roam around a bit. Once he sees with with his feeder stick, he goes nuts, comes out and stretches all the way to the top of the tank! Give it time, it took a while for mine to finally come around. Btw, mine is a baby (6") snowflake eel.
