is a foxface lo an aggressive fish... I was thinking about a 90 FOWLR with a foxface, a flame angel, maybe a puffer, and a few small gobies or firefish, and maybe a wrasse or two. bunker

I had a foxface lo and flame angel with a bunch of other fish and it was a wonderful fish. Active, eats anything.

I also had a magnificent foxface and it was an outstanding fish as well.

I have a magnificent foxface - large fish, very mellow, active, not at all aggressive, but assertive enough not to get bullied. Sucks down algae sheets like a vacuum cleaner. Hardy, tough, good looking. I think a foxface is an excellent idea. Rethink the puffer - make sure you get one that doesn't get too big for your tank. I think I'd get a sharpnose puffer or maybe a dogface. I think most of the others get too big...

Here's a decent pic, looks a lot like mine:

I don't think they are much different from regular foxfaces in care or temperament. They are quite pricey, generally over $100. This species is the only foxface I have owned. I happen to like rare and oddball fish, and at this point in my career and life, can afford them (barely!)

Here's another image and some additional information:

In contrast to the description, mine is not at all shy, and begs for food regularly. Very nice fish.

Regular foxfaces are very cool and good looking too. I think they are a great choice.

I believe dogface puffers get up to 13", more typically around 8" in aquaria. According to wetwebmedia.com (a good site) a 90 may be on the small side, as these puffers need a lot of swimming room and produce a LOT of waste. If you can get a larger tank, like a 6' 125, I would go for it. My 210 has started looking too small! Trust me, you need the largest tank you can afford.

I have a regular foxface lo. always swims around and begs for food by coming up to the surface whenever Im around. Very personable fish, assertive enough to hold its own well at feeding time but very docile.

andrewsmart, was your tank big enough for the dogface, in your opinion?

It's funny, my foxface follows my Indian trigger around like a puppy. :)

I have a small log cabin, with only one wall left to do a tank, and unfortunately there is only 50" of space, perfect for a 90. Thanks for all the great info. Bunker

I had a 5' 120, and had a puffer that was about 8". He was okay in the tank, but really dominated it. If you have a dogface puffer, considering how active they are and how much they eat and poop (foxfaces are big eater/poopers too) I'd be very careful not to overstock, and make sure you have good filtration and keep up with water changes. I think the list for your original post sounds okay, just be careful about the urge to add "just one more" when you are full up. Just my $0.02.
