They are retrofit lights, Alot of people use them with no problems

Are they priced lower than expected for quality MH lights?

Most Normal Metal Halide bulbs sell for about $90 to $100 a piece. If you were looking for a pre assembled halide unit you would spend over $200 for one halide unit.
