A quick background on my set up and what i want to do....90 AGA with the megaflow overflow. I need to plump from the overflow to a sump which will be placed in the basement. I'll have about 10 feet of head and a horizontal run of about 12 feet.

now my questions...starting at the drain bulkhead I'm using the Megaflow accessory kit which has a 1" bulkhead with a 1 1/4" barbed fitting for the plumbing should i stick with this bulkhead or change it out to a 1" slip/threaded bulkhead...is the male threading on the 1" slip/thread bulkheads 1 1/4"?

From there i need to plumb in a valve. So here's my thinking on the fittings....slip/threaded bulkhead plumbed to a 1 1/4" ball valve then run 1 1/4" pipe or tubing to the sump.....should i use rigid PVC for the horizontal run or can i run vinyl for the whole thing? OR should i just drop it to 1" at the bulkhead and use all 1"fittings and tube/pipe?

You'll get a different answer from everyone....

Just plumb it however you like to. Theres really no magic or tricks behind plumbing.

Depends how much flow you want. Here is how much flow each size pvc will give you

Stand pipe Size Gravity Flow Rating
3/4" 330 gph
1" 600 gph
1 1/4" 910 gph
1 1/2" 1300 gph
1 3/4" 1800 gph
2" 2350 gph
2 1/4" 2960 gph
2 1/2" 3650 gph
2 3/4" 4450 gph
3" 5280 gph

but dont forget with every action there is a reaction. As you increase pipe size you reduce the velocity of the water in the line. So if you are thinking of using the main circulation pump as a powerhead as well you may want to go for a smaller pipe size.

My rule of plumbing:
Run as big of a pipe (most of the time for drains/returns 1.5") as possible for as long as possible. If its on the return and you want a stronger jet coming out, then reduce the pipe size right before you go into the tank. You'll maximize your flow and still keep the strength you want.
