Planning a 29 gallon system to house a mixed reef. Remora will be primary filtration and flow will consist of a cl w/scwd.
Is it going to be benefitial to have a 5.5 gallon fuge?(thats all I can fit)

Most of the tank will be filled with baffles and return, the actual fuge will only have a little under 2 gallons (10*7.5*6) is this enough for a little chaeto and rubble. Or should I just scrap the plans. bals....

I would think anything would be good. IMO. If thats all you have room for, then go for it.

I think anything is better than nothing. Although a 10 gal would be much better in preventing floods.

I'd say it would be ok for a 29 gallon tank. Like boxfish said, make sure you leave enough room with the baffles for overflow from a power outage. A 10 gallon would give you a little more breathing room. ;)

I may have room for a 10 unfourtunatly the cubby has a door that only 16.5 inches wide, It opens to 22 inches but it will be tight if it ever needs serviced may do two 5.5's next to each other linked with a couple bulkheads to prevent a flood...which I really want to do(if I cant make it failsafe, I am not starting it). Still looking for a overflow option looking at a austin oceans, or diy. Trying to get all my holes and plumbing planned before I fill it. figured that was a good plan!!.

Question: If I do a intank overflow with a bulk head say 2.5 inches below top water level. Do I measure potential water loss at the bottom of said bulkhead or from the bottom of the overflows teeth(assume water tight over flow)???

I would keep it simple. Go with a custom made 10 gallon. Make it taller rather than longer. If you do your idea you may regret it because the bulkhead may leak and you could get salt creep around the seal. Fwiw I dont like sumps anymore. Too loud and noisy and produce tons of salt spray. :)

I have just enough room for a 10 gallon in mine. I found that a 15 gal tall is the same LxW as a 10 and about 6 inches taller. As for your situation 5.5 gal is roughly 17% more volume for your tank.

I have a 4 gallon fuge on my 115g reef. Grows nice bunches of macro :D

I think that will be large enough to house macro... it's certainly better than going without IMO.
