Purple algae - wire like

I have been getting more and more of this purple algae. It is wiry and tough, like steel wool. Are there any 'reef safe' critters that would control this stuff??

Pic would help. Sounds like red turf algae. If so, Mexican Turbo's reputedly eat it.

The algae is a scourge. It will rapidly multiply and cover every surface of the tank. If you can remove the infected rocks and treat them, you should. Don't try to rip it out, as the small pieces that you miss will float around and attach, effectively making the problem worse.
