I have a Sailfin Tang and a Kole tang that get along well...if I added a Copperband butterfly would it get picked on? Someone told me I couldn't add a cowfish to my system for this reason...

Also Jmack

My sailfin tang is quite docile, and most all of them that I have seen have been too. I have had cowfish long ago and I think I would trust my sailfin tang that I have now with one but cowfish are one of those fish that are really picky eaters and if you do get one make sure it is eating before you buy it. As for the kole I have never had one.

My younger brother has a copper band with a yellow tang, and a clam.....all seem to be happy.

It all depends on the fish, its a hit or miss. the copperband may just get picked on for a few hours. Or they might just leave him alone. Just make sure he is about the same size of the other fish.

This is my first clam-a Gigas!-and I learned afterwards that Copperbands might pick at clams. So far, so good with mine, but I do watch it very closely.

I have a sailfin and a cowfish in my 125, they do fine and my cowfish is not a picky eater, they eat together. My cowfish was added first with 3 clowns and settled for a month or so before I stocked other fish, you tangs might strees the cowfish if added now because of how fast they swim IMO they'll leave the cowfish alone. I would think either the copperband or the cowfish but not both, that'a lot of fish for a 120 IMO. They'll get big.
Here is a video of my cowfish and tang feeding :)

It's possible that the tangs would pick on any fish that has similar shapes. I have a Purple tang that has killed every Heniochus or bannerfish which is in the butterfly family, and the purple tang is only 3-4 inches. He dont bother any other fish in the tank either.

Update: I added a small butterfly yesterday...so far he is doing fine all the other fish are ignoring him. I added him after the lights went off last night to give him time to adjust. My only problem now is trying to get him to eat cause he seems to ignore the brine shrimp I feed in the morning. I'm not sure how good his survival odds are going to be for that reason.
