Are deep sand beds worth the effort/patience?

I currently have only 40 pounds of live sand in my 55, i want to add another 80 pounds or so for a DSB. My tank is 4 months old with 75-80 lbs of live rock,a Diamond Watchman Goby,a Horseshoe Crab,a Condy Anemone,a Pulsing Xenia, two sea slug(Lettuce Sea Slug[Nudibrach],the other...unknown),and of course the clean up crews......Do i need a DSB? If So,how do i add sand to an alredy established sand bed? How do i get around what is all over and inside the sand bed?

I would say you do not need a DSB, especially since your tank is already setup. IMO, DSB's are for experienced reefers who want to try a different method and plan around this from the start. There's also the thought that a 55 gal may be too small for a DSB to be effective.
