it's a 24 gallon aquapod with pc lighting (1 50/50 bulb and 1 dual daylight 6500/10000k). color is actually a very nice bright sunny yellowish white color. he completely modified the filtration system himself. i think the stock pump in this thing only does like 250 gallons per hour. he added 3 more rio 600's in there - adding an additional ±600 gph with the mods. he completely closed off all of the baffle strainers on the bottom and only allows the top overflow to do the work. if anyone's ever seen what the back of this tank looks like, it has a nice flat center area with some angled faces leading to where the pump area is. in the stock pump side, all he did was throw his heater in there - a 50 watt stealth. then he drilled out 4 holes in the center, and one off to the side of the overflow. 2 pumps run the 4 holes in the center with "T's" and the other added pump runs the return next to the overflows. powerhead intake strainers were siliconed to the tubing behind the rock to disperse the water. a 3/4" thk. piece of white sintra was siliconed to the bottom of the tank to stabilize the rock. the tank was filled with ro/di water and reef crystals salt and has been running rockless for a week or 2.

he ordered 70 lbs of live rock and 10 lbs of live sand from tampa bay saltwater. everyone laughed. we all told him it was way too much rock for a 24 gallon tank and he was just wasting his money. his vision was to have a lot of rock with a lot of water movement through the pile and we just continued to clown him. anyway, the rock came in tuesday in 4 boxes (3 for rock and 1 for the sand). looking at the pictures below, there is 65 lbs of rock in that tank with all 10 lbs of sand direct from the gulf of mexico. the guy from tampa shipped it in the late morning, and he picked it up in the early afternoon. all bags of rock were about 1/4 of the way full of water. i was impressed. a couple of us stayed late that night at work and helped him set it up. the amount of life in and crawling off of it was just incredible. among the macro algaes, there were astrea snails, blue leg hermits, a big mexican turbo snail, brittle stars, gorgonians and wips and of course my favorite - an octopus was crawling out of a hole too. now with all of the goodies, there were gorilla crabs and we can hear either mantis or pistol shrimp - can't really tell and haven't seen them - only heard them. oh well, the octo will take care of them for us (hopefully).

anyway, i thought i'd take some pics of the tank and post them for him. he's not a member of the board, and rarely checks anything reef related on-line at all. he just relies on me and a couple of others to help him out.

here's some pics. hope you all enjoy:

yeah, right! LOL!

he's planning on a couple of perks and maybe something else that's small like a gramma. they'll be packed in there like sardines for sure.

on the upside, we've caught 4 baby octos and have seen several hatch out. we tried feeding mamma some shrimp yesterday, but don't think she ate it. another upside is the mantis are taking care of his gorilla crab population.
