I have what looks to be Calulerpa peltata after research. My question is whether there are any special needs for it and will it take over my aquapod? Any insight would be great thanks.

It will take over. I would recommend a non-caulerpa algae such as chaetomorpha.

hmm thats unfortunate. It came attached to a mushroom rock and was buried in hair algea and i didn't see it till cleanup crew removed the hair algea. ok thanks for the help i'll just pull it out now then.

It is possible for it to takeover, yes. In a small reef tank the potential for it to do so rises. I would try to pull it from the rock and keep it out the tank as much as possible. There are other types of macroalgae that are better suited for your particular setup. :)
