I was at the local Petco today and noticed they had a 'yellow anthia.' It seemed to be a female, but I could be wrong. How can you tell what sex an anthia is? Also, I have a male lyretail anthia that is a yellow/orange color with a blue eye. This anthia was a yellow color with a purple eye. Are these two compatible or the same type? Let me know if I am being to vague. Thanks!

Do you think this is the same as a yellow anthia that would be listed at Petco? The color is similar. The female at Petco might be slightly more yellow/less orange. She is also a little smaller.
Would compatibility be there?

That looks like a female lyretail. It might be in the process of changing to male. Does it have a spot on each of the pectoral fins?

Both pectoral fins have a bright orange-red spot on them. Is this a sign of its sex?

It is changing to male, but still has most of it's female coloration. Other than the spots on the fins, that looks exactly like a female. In this species, the females are orange and the males are darker and have spots on the pectoral fins.

The more dominant females and males will also have the high part of the dorsal fin, like yours has, and like the male picture above shows.
