So a friend and I just picked up a 55G tank used from someone, and we know that the bottom says Tempered do not drill, but does that count for all sides? Can we drill the back of the tank? If we can drill the back of the tank, can we still put a corner overflow in with a durso in it that goes 90 degrees out the back then 90 degrees down? Thanks for the help guys really appreciate it.

i would check with the manufaturer. i got a 55 given to me and i started to drill the side and boom. well i found out that all the panes were tempered.

The sticker had the Perfecto symbol on it if this helps to find out if it can be drilled.

i would call Perfecto to see if it is tempered

I hope not, then I would have to use an external overflow, and it doesen't sound like I could do a closed loop either.

ok this is a dumi question but? why tempered glass is used on aquarium. does it resist more pressure. it is harder or what make it so popular on the botom of the tanks?

its stronger than normal plate glass.

Also what type of information do I need to give to perfecto?

you can do a closed loop over the top of the tank if you cant drill it.

there should be a manufacture date and the size is what they asked me for when i called about my 120.

its stronger than normal plate glass.

Which means they can use cheaper, thinner glass, which is the real motivation.

I also drilled a 55 on the back side and found out fast that it was temperd. The only thing you can do is cal and ask. Good luck.
