I have a 120 with a horizontal overflow and 4-1" drains. I'm thinking drilling a hole in each cap and putting 1/4"tubing through the hole with a small valve on the tubing. This would give me good control over air flow and make it very quiet. Has anyone done this? I know people have drilled a hole through the side of the cap and the pipe so you can spin the cap and control airflow, but the caps can be hard to spin. any opinions are appreciated. Here is a pic of the partially assembled overflows.

The way people make the caps easier to spin is by sanding down the inside of the cap until its just snug rather then being wedged on.

I have seen the use of airline tubing before but wonder about using it with four returns myself.

Someone with experience should be able to help on that score.

gang valve the four into one intake. drill undersize hole in the caps. superglue a 1/4" check valve in the cap of each one and apply the tubing. cheap and easy! thats the way i did it, got it all at wally-world. (cheaper than any LFS) have a great day!:)
