I just added a new pump to the tank thats not quiet. I already have 2 pressure rated pumps..

Do you think my fish have a hard time sleeping? I know I live on a main rd. and don't mind all of the cars outside. Are fish the same way?

Depeneds on the kind of fish. Some burrowing or bottom dwelling fish can get stressed out by it, others don't seem to care. Are any acting annoyed?

Dunno, just put the pump in.

I have to think its a little annoying for them. Not to say that much of anything we see in our tanks can be compared to normal behavior for most of our fish, but I don't see mine acting weird and my MJs are noisy.

I think it's sort of an acclimation thing.

For example, a buddy of mine lives about 300 feet from a major freeway. Anytime I go over there, I'm stunned at how loud it is, but he's been living there for so long, he can't hear it unless he listens for it.

I would imagine it would be the same in our tanks.

I placed once the ear against the tank wall, and was stunned, how loud was noise from the quietest small pump I could find.
Also very concerned about this, but have no choice - tried a lot of pumps, this was quietest.

Interesting question. The other day I was wondering whether a tank next to a home theater system will cause the fish to have more stress due to the high sound levels?
