My 180g has 2 overflows in the back corner. The returns are 1" ID pipe with a sponge filter to catch the junk where it is then filtered once again by DLS before being dumped in the sump.

I'm seeing more and more sumps using the 100 micron sock filters to catch all the return debris.

What's your thoughts on these. Worthwhile or not? Should the sock actually be wet or dry? Is 100 micron good, bad or indifferent. Can one sock keep up with 750 gph return? I would rather clean 1 sock then 2 sponges which collects all the bristle worms.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking on changing my sump, but if it ain't broken, I'm not fixing:)

I use the socks myself, sponges are a mess. I use 100 or 200 micron, I have 2 types, it depends on what's clean. The sock stays wet, water runs through it so it really can't be prevented..

I run total about 1100gph through them, so your piddly 750 will be fine :)
