I'd like to hear any ideas on how to keep the heater attached to the side of the tank. It seems the suction cups on my heater are completely trashed, and they won't stay on the glass for more than a few minutes. I've only owned my setup for about 8 months.

Long-term solutions, anyone?

I also have this issue with one of my heaters. I suppose I could just get new suction cups.

You can buy new suction cups. The best, long term solution is to stick your heaters in a sump where it does not matter if they stick or not, just throw them in there.

Becareful what you throw in the Sump if the heater is titanium it ok but if it Glass be aware. if it broken without you knowing the mecury leak out which cause the hold tank crash. Speaking from expriences :-(

My heater is Titanium... thanks for the heads-up though.

What about the danger of the heat laying flush against the glass? I'm concerned it may cause a stress fracture in the glass. I have a tempered 10 gallon tank for the sump.

A glass heater can break just as easily in the main tank as it can in a sump, with similar consequences.

Suction cups suck, wait.. no they don't suck :)

Zip strips? Hold it by the cord?

Good luck with that!

This is why I'm partial to heating elements with plastic caps or stand-offs near the ends. Here is a new glass heater with such caps or stand-offs: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=15459&N=2004+113767
