Does anyone actually get a full cup of skimmate that is dark and smelly from this skimmer in a day or two? I have a mod bioload and I get an eighth of cup a day that is dark and nonsmelly. I am wondering if mine is working properly

thanks for feedback

That's probably about the average for the skimmer. If you run really wet you'll fill the cup but with a tea colored skimmate in most cases. All depends on the bio load as you said and how much you are compensating for it with water changes etc... I get about the same amount of skimmate as you are describing but I am very aggressive in other areas of my filtration. ;)

Mine seems to skim very well when it skims. Maybe 3 days in a row and then hardly nothing for 3 or 4 days. I have read if you have a lite bio-load this is what it does. I get green tea that does not have a big odor. Sounds like we are all in about the same boat.

i also have the remora c skimmer,i notice it runs better if you clean the cup tube often.ive found that once it skims dry for a while, the nutrients stick to the inside of the tube causing friction to the bubbles, causing less nutrient removal overall.just my thoughts/opinions.

I have the Remora Pro with a Mag 3 pump on 58g w/sump. Skimmer hangs on sump. I used to get the same tea colored, non-smelly skimmate. Then I started dosing the tank with phytoplankton and my skimmate went to dark brown and smelly just like others talk about. I think there are just not enough nutrients in some tanks to get the darker skimmate.

That's a good thing then, not enough nutrients in the tanks to get the darker skimmate, right? Drummereef can you explain what you mean by aggressive in other areas? Sorry gaspusher don't mean to hijack, I was going to post the same question and take a picture of my collection cup. My water is always a tea color and never dark, but I don't have any fish yet was wondering if that is why.

Anyone have any real bad rattling sounds with theirs? My mag 5 is fine and doesn't rattle, but the rattle sounds like it is coming from the intake tube. Starting to frustrate me :(

This is also a great fix that makes it sound free, except for my dang rattle

This took maybe 10 min and requires household items.

Need:
-Plastic (I use #4, the lid off a cream cheese container)
-Air tube
-OPTIONAL – glue gun

Steps:

1) Take out the collection cup and dab it on a piece of paper, this will outline the aprox. size of the chamber as the 1st chamber is about the same size as the reaction chamber
2) Cut out the damp outline of the paper and stick it to your plastic, use it as an outline to cut out the plastic.
3) Take your air line hose and cut on one side across the whole length (which should be the total circumference of your plastic minus a little bit)
4) Cut the first to match the length of one side of your plastic, then cut 3 more according to how long you will need, you will need a little less then the total circumference as the with will take up some space on at least 2 sides.
5) Test the square with hoses around the edges for fit in the hole; you want it tight so it should bend a bit along its width, but not too much. Trim the length to fit and the width so that it will bend when in place.
6) OPTIONAL, I chose to use a glue gun to keep the air tube edges in place; I glued the top side only so that the glue won’t be in contact with the water as I don’t know if it is harmful. If you make your lengthwise cut along the inside of where the tube naturally curls it will stay on without glue though.
7) Put it in place and clean it when you clean your skimmer

sounds neat... can you post a picture of what the final product looks like?
