Powers out and I can't get home right now. How long should my reef be O.K. before things start to die????

Tough to say i know the corals will be dying in stale non moving water. I haven't had this happen to me but Im sure someone can enlighten you. Do you know how long this might last? I have heard of systems crashing fast with out power, mainly from no water movement. Obviously they can do fine with out lights for awhile and no skimmer, the non moving water just suffocates things i suppose.

If the outside temp is not too warm or cold, you should be fine for 8-12 hours. You really need some way of aerating the water for any longer than that.

Wife called .... Powers back on after 5 hours. Everything seems O.K.

Wifey is anaphalctic to iodine so she could not set up the emergency pumps and heater.

Guess I will have to automate a transfer switch, or replace the wife.

thanks for the input.

I say go for the tranfer switch much cheaper to switch over than wives

In this situation I say 4 hours without the movement of water, but you really should put airstones in to increase the oxygen level and to get the water moving.
