I finally went topless on my AP 12g and added a SunPod metal halide. With the tank temp at a now constant 80F I get about 1/2 gal per day evaporation. This causes the salinity to go from my target of 1.026 to 1.030 before I top off with RODI water. Is this harmful to the fish and coral? What else can I do?

Salinity that high will cause some stress to your fish. If this is something you cannot correct, you should lower your starting salinity to 1.022 so it peaks at about 1.026 after evaporation.

Why not build a simple auto water top off.

Use gravity, a few gallon jug, and a float valve to make a small water tower.

That is pretty large for a daily swing.
