heres my new set-up. needed to upgrade for the pair of yasha hase gobies. plus with work being busy i dont have as much time anymore for maintanence so hopefully this set-up will be more stable. so far so good. been running for three weeks, only took two in a half to cycle. used LR from old set-up and some from my buddies tank. 60pds LS (30 agra-live reef and 30 regular agranite) and 45pds LR. 2x96watt PC fixture (50/50 and dual actinic). sump w/ filter sock, LR rubble, cheato, and built in ATO resevior. Mag5 return pump, and two maxi jet 600. 150watt hydor heater. lights, actinic 12hrs, and 50/50 8hrs. 5-10 gallon water chnages a week. i think thats about it, if i have missed anything just ask.......enjoy.

does the shrimp constantly move the sand around?

dirtyone
05/05/2007, 07:09 PM
yeah the pistol shrimp does move the sand around alot, but once he gets it how he likes it he stops. the rest of the time he keeps his burrow clean by moving the sand in and out.

you did a great job on your aquascaping! i really like the flow of it.

got a question about your gobies/pistol shrimp. with another pair of gobies and shrimp will they leave each other alone? you don't forsee any problems?

now i'm curious......i have a ywg and a pistol on the way...wondering if i get another ywg and a pistol....

well i added a single yasha hase and he or she paired up with the other two, so im going to try to see if i can have another pair in teh tank. i have put another shrimp in the same tank and not had any problems before. hopefully if all goes as planed i will have two pair and a single yasha hase and three alpheus randallii pistol shrimp in the same tank. wish me luck and ill fill in as time goes on. on another note i had one YWG and a hi fin red stripe with two pistols in a fifteen high with no problems for about a year. just leavin an update on my yasha hase gobies.......after adding the new pair there was alittle tension but after about ten minutes all was good. now i have one pair on the left side of my tank and a trio on the right. the trio is due to the addition of a single yasha hase. never thought it would pair up with the others. to date i have five yasha hase gobies , three alphues randalli pistol shrimp and two bangii cardinals. all is well in the breeder, hope it stays that way.

well as of ten minutes ago, feeding time, all five of my yasha hase gobies and three alpheus randalli pistol shrimps are paired up together in one cave system. but of coarse my camera was nowhere to be found. im still ****ed about that one. that had to be the coolest thing i have seen ever. one of these days im going to get a pic or even a video of them, maybe tonight if im lucky.

used black spray paint...not sure if that was a good idea but i have done it in the past and havent had any problems. i have had a few ppl say "you used spray paint" like in a bad way.....so now im worried but all is well at this point.

yeas i drilled the holes myself. i used my dremel tool with diamond bits from home depot. one bit per hole. takes alittle bit but is hell of alot cheaper then sending it out. i put the tank in the tub and use a hose to run water over the spot i am cutting. any thicker glass than this tank has it will take a second bit to finish the hole off. dirtyone
07/12/2007, 08:43 PM
i thought pistol myself but the claws threw me off also. the claws are pointy. doesnt have the clicking type. i have three alphues randalli pistol shrimp in this tank and they both have similar characteristics. this one doesnt burrow in the sand, he lives in the LR. he actually burrows in the rock. he also keeps his claws cocked back when hes not moving around.
